More Pickin'
This weekend will be my big debut playing banjo with Hicks with Picks. I have subbed as the banjo picker for our Sunday 9am Gospel at the Rock service many times, but this will be my first time outside Rock Spring. Jeff Dore normally plays the five string, but he is also a great guitar player. When our regular guitar player Chas is out, Jeff slides to his place and I swap my bass for my banjo.
This weekend we have such a situation and we also happen to have three gigs - plus our regular Gospel at the Rock. So I'll be jumping in the deep end and swimming to the other side.
The first gig is Saturday at the Emory Presbyterian Church Bluegrass Festival. We play at 11:30, and the whole day has a great lineup of bands and activities. Should be fun.
Sunday at 11, we are returning to Emory Presbyterian Church to play for their worship service.
Finally, Sunday at 5:15, we are the final band on the Lion Stage at the Oakland Cemetery Sunday in the Park Festival. Everyone says this is a great festival with multiple stages, tons of vendors and entertainment. Plus, it is in a cemetery!
